Description:

Navratri is one of the most auspicious Hindu festivals. This auspicious festival is celebrated with great zeal and devotion throughout the country. Navratri is a pious festival celebrated in the honor of nine different forms of the Goddess Maha Kali, Maha Lakshmi and Maha Saraswati for nine continuous days. The Goddess of Power is worshipped during these days in order to seek her blessings and protection from any unknown fear and possible threat. The devotees ask for peace and prosperity from the Goddess Durga Mata. The Goddess of power has the supremacy over the creation, preservation and destruction of the universe.

These two periods are considered to be the most auspicious time of the year to perform Durga Puja. The last day is Vijayadashmi or Dussera which signifies Lord Ram’s victory over the ten headed demon king Ravan. The Goddess of Power or Shakti, who is considered to be the purest and absolute form of energy, is worshipped during these days in order to seek her blessings and protection from any unknown evils and probable threat. Diwali the festival of lights is celebrated twenty days after Dussera. 

The Navaratri commences on the first day (pratipada) of the bright fortnight of the lunar month of Ashwin. The festival is celebrated for nine nights once every year during the beginning of October, although as the dates of the festival are determined according to the lunar calendar, the festival may be held for a day more or a day less.

Important poojas on Dussehra Festival:

Dussehra festival(Dasara) is also known as Vijayadashami. This is the one of the most auspicious festivals celebrated in a variety of ways in India. Dussehra word is derived from Sanskrit word  Dasha-Hara is a form of Dashanan ravan. The Dussehra festival first nine days are called as Navratri. Navratri means Nine Nights then the the tenth day is celebrated as Dussehra.

In general according to the Hindu calendar, the Vijayadashami festival is celebrated on the tenth day of darker fortnight the month of Ashwin. Usually this festival occurs in September month or October month of the Gregorian calendar. Dussehra Festival 2016, Durga Pooja Celebration starts from October 1st 2016 to October 11th 2016.

The main reason to celebrate Dasara festival is the victory of Lord Rama over Demon Dashanan Ravana. This day is marks the triumph of Goddess Durga over the buffalo Demon Mahishasura.

Like other festivals Dussehra is an auspicious day to begin formal education. Some people perform Saraswati Puja to their childer on this day. Factory owners and propriotors and other people perform Ayudha Puja. This pooja is also known as Astra Puja. The main importance of this Ayudha Puja is worshipping the each and every implement that we use, whether it is in factory, industry, agriculture, office or anything else. 

Shami Puja is one of the important rituals which are performed on Vijayadashami day. Shami Puja is also known as Banni Puja and Jammi Puja in some of the southern states in India.

Description:

Atla Taddi is one of the most celebrated regional festivals of AP & Telangana. It is the festival which falls after Dasara every year. 
This festival is a Telugu equivalent of Karva Chauth, a prominent festival of North India.
Atla Taddi as the name suggests is base on Atlu which means Dosas. Taddi is nothing but the short form of Tadiya or third day. Atla Taddi is observed on Aswayuja Bahula or Krishna Paksha Tadiya, i.e. the third day of the wanning phase of the moon of Ashwayuja Month of the telugu calendar.
It is purely a ladies festival celebrated by married women as well as unmarried women.
Unmarried women perform Gauri Puja and celebrate the festival with utmost fervour to be blessed with a good and caring husband and great married life and married women for their marital bliss and wellness of their husbands.
Woman mark AtlaTaddi by keeping a day-long fast without food or water. Hence this is also called “Nirjala Vratham”.
Goddess Gauri is worshipped on the day of Atla Taddi.
Women wake up early in the morning and perform spiritual bath or ceremonial bath.They observe fasting till the evening.
In the evening, women perform pooja, and after looking at the moon, they break the fast by having tiny atlu (miniature dosas).
Dosas are given as vayanaaluu to married woman who also do fasting.
For each muttayduvu (these ladies/relatives fast along with the one who is having this pooja perform). The ceremony includes 11 ladies who already took this vayanam and if menatta (aunt of your mothers side) took this vayanam the rituals continues. To all these 11 ladies you give each 11 atlu with deepam (made of rice flour and ghee and lit in front of goddess Gowri) you offer each lady the vayanam by holding with your sarees pallu... you utter these words

Istinamma vanayam (i gave her the vayanam) - Puchukunna amma vayanam (lady says: i took the vayanam) 
Mummatiki ichindamma vayanam (or) andinchinamma vayanam (i gave her the vayanam)

There is a ritual of buying gold and silver on Dhanteras.  Dhanteras puja is performed to please Kuber, who is considered to be the god of wealth for acquisition of wealth and prestige.
Dhanteras is celebrated with gusto and enthusiasm. Lakshmi Puja is performed in the evenings when tiny diyas of clay are lit to drive away the shadows of evil spirits. Pooja, Bhajans, devotional songs in praise of Goddess Lakshmi, are sung and Naivedya of traditional sweets is offered to the Goddess. There is a peculiar custom in Maharashtra to lightly pound dry coriander seeds (Dhane in Marathi for Dhanatrayodashi) with jaggery and offer as Naivedya.
In villages, cattle are adorned and worshiped by farmers as they form the main source of their income. In south India, cows are offered, particularly, a special veneration because they are thought of as incarnations of Goddess Lakshmi.

Naga Chaturthi comes on the fourth day(Chaturthi) after Diwali. This festival also called Nagula Chavithi / Nagaachauth. This is a festival to worship Naga Devatas (Serpent Gods). Nagula Chavithi in Kartika masam is a major festival in Andhra and Telangana. It is mainly observed by married women for their well-being of their children. It is believed that worshipping to Naga devata will fulfill ones from all desires, also keep one away from all kinds of disorders related to skin and ear problems.
Some worshippers draw snake structures on a card board/wooden plank or on the wall and perform pooja with offer milk, bananas, flowers a special offering called ellurundai (Sesame mixed with Jaggery), Arisi urundai or Thambitu (rice flour dough mixed with sugar or jaggery). The full moon day of the Karthika Month of the lunar calendar known as Kartik Purnima.
The other names of Karthika Pournami are Deva Deepawali or Deva Diwali, Tripuri Purnima or Tripurari Purnima.
Karthika Pournami or Kartik Purnima is also one of the days when the temples of Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu are full with the devotees wanting a darshan of their deities.

Devotees would visit the temple of Lord Shiva and lit lamps. A pack of 365 wicks is usually lit. Each wick is for each day of the year.

What is Makar Sankranti?

The Sun begins northward journey which marks as Makara Sankranti. Sankranti will be celebrated on the 15 th of January (Friday) in 2016. This is festival is  one of the most auspicious day for the Hindus. It is the first Hindu festival of the year 2016 and is dedicated to the worship of Lord Surya bhagavan. It is a harvest festival celebrated differently in many cultural forms.

Different names of Sankranti

Makar Sankranti is celebrated all across India by different names and rituals associated with this pious day. Other names include 'Khichri' in Uttar Pradesh, 'Pongal' in Tamil Nadu, 'Bhogali Bihu' in Assam, 'Sakarat' in Central India and 'Lohri' in Punjab and northern India.

Makar Sankranti marks the transition of the Sun into the zodiac sign of Makara rashi (Capricorn) on its celestial path.
This also marks the inception of the holy phase of Uttarayana which is considered the best time for attaining 'mukti'. All Punya Kaal activities should be done day time. 
This festival is celebrated for four days as Bhogi, Sankranti, Kanuma, Mukkanuma. 
Lights of wood(Bhogi fire), children showered with Jujube fruits, piles of cow dung, called gobbemma on Rangolis, Haridasu, flying kites, Toy Galleries at homes, Hens betting  are main attractions of this festival.

As per the Sanatana shastras, Sankranthi is the most auspicious period for Punya Snan in Holy Rivers like Ganga, Godavari, Krishna, Cauvery, Narmada, etc.

It states, during the period of Sankramana, donating dhanyam (grains), suvarnam (gold), phala (fruits), vasthram (clothes), vegetables, Til (sesame), sugarcane, cow, etc. is highly meritorious.

Ratha Saptami is one of the most auspicious day observed on the seventh day of Shukla Paksha, or waxing phase of moon, in the Magh Month (January – February) in a traditional Hindu lunar calendar. Ratha Saptami is dedicated to Lord Surya Bhagawan. In 2016, Ratha Saptami will be performed on February 14.

Ratha Saptami or Magha Saptami is a day which was considered as birth day of God Surya hence celebrated as Surya Jayanti (the Sun-god’s birthday).

This day is Also known as Vidhan Saptami, Arogya Saptami, Surya Jayanti, Achala Saptami, Ratha Saptami is the highly meritorious day to worship Surya Bhagawan.

Rathasapthami begins in households with a purification bath. Taking bath before sunrise during Arunodaya keeps one healthy and free from all types of ailments and diseases. By worshipping Lord Surya on this day one can get rid of all type of sins.

Pray to Surya Dev on Ratha Sapthami day by reciting or listening or chanting Aditya Hridayam, Surya Ashtakam, Surya Shathakam, Aruna Parayanam, Vedam, and performing Surya namaskarams early in the morning. Further, praying to Surya everyday or at least Sunday is highly recommended for good health, wealth and also to take away any obstacles in life. Also, it is highly recommended to avoid eating meat, drinking liquor, and physical involvement with woman on at least Sunday for ones’ welfare.

Magha Shukla Ekadasi Bhishma Ekadasi. This is one of the most auspicious day in  Magha Mass. This day is the death anniversary of Bhishma Pitamah.

In this auspicious Ekadasi tidhi, Bhishma revealed the Vishnu Sahasranama Stotram to Yudhisthira when he was lying in a death bed (of arrows) after the Great battlefield of Kurukshetra.

Some of the important days dedicated to Bhishma are Bhishma Ashtami, Bhisma Dwadasi and Bhishma Ekadashi. It is believed that Bhishma chose this period to leave his body and merge with the Supreme Soul (Brahman). 

People who perform Shradh for Bhishma in this day are blessed with Children/Santana. The auspicious Upavasa of Bhishma Ekadasi is important as it is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. And also it is believed that listening to Vishnu Sahasranama Stotram leads to Moksha.
