Usually Maha Navami puja held on the ninth day of Devi Navaratri.
The precise rule is that if Ashtami and Navami merge before Sanyakal on Ashtami Tithi then Ashtami Puja and Navami Puja including Sandhi Puja are done on the same day.
Generally the pooja is held in 2nd & 3rd days of Devi Navaratri Moola poojas. In this day the devotees who invoke goddess Durga will be blessed with Mantra siddi, so this day is also known as Siddidha.
Young unmarried girls, being treated as Goddess Durga itself, are also worshipped on Maha Ashtami. This pooja is known as Kumari Puja. In many regions Kumari Puja is done during all nine days of Durga Navratri.
The vehicle owners and all of the other professional workers will done Aayudha Pooja on Maha Navami.
